How is your overall work ethic? Career advancement - Step 2

10 THINGS THAT REQUIRE ZERO TALENT

Last week we covered first step on how you need to have game changing qualities to get noticed by your employers.

This week it’s all about productivity. Being able to do your best without holding back.

How to move up in your career #2

TIP# 2 Have an excellent work ethic

It’s surprising how many people lack even a good work ethic. Most people who are not in the right job just work to get by. Many complain - you know the ones - you try to avoid them in the kitchen because they’re always negative about everything and everyone. They’re hard to please, hard to talk to and drain the enjoyment out of life. If you are one of these people you need to stop being an asshole and you can read why here.

If you’re anything like me, you will love what you do, that you go above and beyond what is required. Do your work and stop slacking off hoping that someone else will do it for you.

It may mean that you have to put in long hours at times. You may have to step up and help your colleagues especially if there’s a crisis or a critical time constraint to finish the work. It may even mean that you take on the initiative to complete something, without being asked to do it.

Remember you are employed because of your talents and because your employer saw something in you of value to them. My advice is approach every task as if you’re providing 100% customer service. When you start envisioning your career balancing on your reputation - you avoid the risk and tipping the scale to just getting by.

If you are not enthusiastic about your current job - then do yourself (and your employer) a favour - leave. Find another one that rocks your world.
